Don’t hate Clubhouse!

We, humans, tend to have a love-hate relationship with new technologies. We get excited too fast and we express hate when we feel threatened. Threats to our norms. Threats to the way we are used to living, working, and experiencing life.
This is often the case when these technologies have a broader impact on our social circles. When they enable people around us to do things that only we could do. And when they give new social capabilities to those around us that only we— and maybe a bunch of others — were capable of.
They cause us discomfort and make us insecure.
When Instagram was launched, hobbyists and professional photographers were hesitant to present their work on the platform. They hated that now everyone claims to be a photographer. Journalists saw Twitter as a threat to journalism. Tiktok gave rise to a whole new wave of young ambitious content creators.
The fast pace of tech innovation means more new things will come out. Clubhouse will enable many who did not have a voice, share WHATEVER they want, whether we like it or not. Regardless of whether we think there is any value in what they have to say.
If you are a popular podcaster and your audience is spending less and less time listening to your podcast because they are busy being quiet in a Clubhouse silent room, you should be afraid. But you should not try to make a decision right now to totally boycott the platform or go all in. Successful people don’t make too many decisions in their lives. But the ones they make, are of higher quality that makes them more successful – says Naval in his podcast.

The democratization of technology is critical to the democratization of information, the democratization of finance, and the democratization of science. The democratization of technology facilitates fairness among several social classes. It reduces barriers to entry into alls fields.
Let’s embrace new technologies. Let’s make it possible for everyone to have access to a variety of tools and capabilities. We don’t need to love it or hate it, just yet. Study the hype cycles. Pause and ponder. See the possibilities. Find opportunities. Strategize your next move.
